Teak info
Teak wood is a natural product, and may therefore present knots and/or unevenness. There may also be repair-pieces visible surface. Because teak furniture is made from recycled material, pieces of teak may be damaged due to previous use. This is replaced in Indonesia by inserting new pieces of teak wood. This is a natural part of recycled sustainable teak furniture.
Under the influence of light, humidity, and temperature differences, teak wood may show slight shrinkage. This can cause small cracks to appear. This is a natural process and not necessarily a bad thing. With changing conditions, the teak may even close again. For permanent cracks, it is possible to fill them with liquid wood.

Indoor care
Not treating your teak product
- For less-used furniture, such as teak cabinets and teak dressers, treating is not that impactful. Intensively used teak furniture, such as teak tables, will come to life more and more and show signs of this in the following ways: the surface becomes smoother, the natural oil of the wood comes out, the teak will darken and you will see signs of use.
- It is possible to clean the furniture with green soap, baking soda, or linseed oil. Dissolve the product in some warm water and wipe the furniture with a damp cloth
- Never use other cleaning agents, such as all-purpose cleaner or dish soap. These products have a degreasing function, which removes the natural oil from the top layer of the teak. This makes the top layer slightly porous, allowing grease and dirt to penetrate the furniture more easily.

Skylt is a 2-part polyurethane paint, which gives the wood an untreated and ultra matte finish. It comes with two components. Skylt protects very well against water, dirt, and grease. The surface of the teak becomes elastic and wear-resistant.
- Start with a clean and dry surface, and room-temperature Skylt. Shake component A well and pour the product in a paint bucket. Add component B and mix the two well. Let the mixture rest for ten minutes and stir again. Apply an even coat of Skylt with a brush. We recommend sanding the surface lightly with a low grid sanding sponge for smoother results.
- On an untreated surface, Skylt should be applied at least 3 times. With a renovation-project, clean the surface well and coat 1-2 times. Tools can be cleaned with acetone
- After the final coat, do not cover or wetten the surface for 14 days.
- Overcoatable after: 3 – 4 hours
Sandable after: 8 hours
Lightly loadable after: 12 – 16 hours
Fully loadable after: 7 – 14 days
- Overcoatable after: 3 – 4 hours
- Note: When used on brushed Kasar teak, black stains may appear. With recycled teak such as Kasar, there can always be holes in the wood that hold dirt. The Skylt cannot flow into every hole, resulting in a sealed layer over the wood that does not adhere 100% in all areas. The dirt in the teak is pushed out of the wood by the oil-containing substances, but cannot leave because there is a sealed layer over it, which is what causes the black-blue stains.
Teakfix is a colorless, water-based protector for untreated teak furniture. After treatment, the color of the wood hardly changes. Teakfix protects against dirt and moisture stains, but is less resistant to grease stains.
- Start with a clean surface. Spread the Teakfix evenly with a cloth or brush, then wipe with a cloth and leave to dry for at least 24 hours. Apply a second coat. For untreated teak, it is advised to apply 2-3 coats for optimal protection.
- Note that furniture treated with Teakfix should be treated three to four times a year!
- Before applying a new coat, it is recommended to first clean the surface with Woodclean Intensive Wood Cleaner.
- Stains should be immediately removed with a cloth or tissue. Persistent stains can be cleaned with Woodclean Intensive Wood Cleaner, after which one should re-treat the surface.
Woodsealer is a water-based impregnating oil for indoor use. The teak may get a little darker with use. Woodsealer gives optical protection against water, grease, and oil. It is not a maintenance product, but a finishing product for untreated teak wood.
- Start with a clean surface. Apply the oil in an atmosphere of 15-20 degrees celsius. Apply it with a brush and remove excess oil with a cloth. After three hours, it becomes noticeable that the wood is slightly roughened by the oil. Lightly sand the wood with fine sandpaper. Dust off and apply a second coat.
- With more coats, the teak will be protected better, but also shine more. 2-3 coats are recommended.
Outdoor Care
Not treating your teak product
If you do not treat your teak furniture, it will turn from golden brown to silver-gray. Due to the reaction of sunlight (UV), oxygen and teak wood, furniture will gray. This is a natural reaction and does not affect the durability of teak. In time, the silver-gray color may change to dark gray with a green appearance. You can choose to keep this natural development that way or clean the wood with green soap, soda, or a teak cleaning product.
NEVER use a pressure washer on your teak product!
